That Summer Day is the stage name of one David “Bert” Zarnetzky.

Born in Brooklyn, NY on a midsummer day of 1979, David was the youngest of four brothers and sisters. From an early age he showed interest in music and literature, much to his parents sorrow, as they wanted him to join his father’s business as a butcher. Alas, David was opposed to animal slaughter and pursued his dream as an artist.

He currently lives in Williamsburg with his cats and records low-fi, folkish music in his own bedroom. His first album, titled Me was a complete failure. But the one depicted here, released on the first day of spring, 2009, received some good reviews. One that comes to mind is this from Pitchfork.com: “If you will not listen to this album, and by listen we mean listen, you will probably miss one of the most depressing yet exhilarating experiences of your lifetime. This album is so sad, that you might actually feel better about yourself”. Pitchfork gave this album a solid 8.
